I promised pictures of the adult Chinese mantises from last week, so here you go. And to start off we have some lovely horror-movie-esque imagery of a mantis tearing into its cricket meal. Enjoy!

Love it! That last photo is a classic.
Thank you! It’s just like slurping down spaghetti.
I disagree with Jason. The FIRST photo is a classic 😛
OMNOMNOM!!! CHUNKS OF CRICKET CLUTCHED IN MY MIGHTY RAPTORIAL FORELEGS!!!! BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! (Seriously, I can hear the evil overlord laugh coming through the monitor! o_O)
Thanks!
I like to think I can hear a tiny, high pitched “Heeeeellp meeeee!”
Love the first one too!
Thanks. I couldn’t decide, so I used them both.
was wondering if you really *hand fed* them : ) didn’t think so, but you gotta wonder. nice pictures! they are SO cool
I guess that depends on your definition of hand-feeding. 🙂 I did use forceps, but that was to more to keep from spooking the mantis than to protect my hands.
Although I also did not actually feed them my hand.
